Enos was the first chimpanzee to orbit Earth. He was launched into space on November 29, 1961, as part of the Mercury-Atlas 5 mission. Enos was trained for the mission by the U.S. Air Force and NASA, and he completed two orbits around the planet before returning safely to Earth. His successful mission paved the way for future space exploration and helped to advance the understanding of the effects of space travel on living organisms.
