Ava DuVernay is an American filmmaker, producer, and director. She is best known for her award-winning films Selma and 13th. She is the first African-American woman to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Director and the first black female director to have a film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. She has also directed television shows such as Queen Sugar and When They See Us.
