Famed Caravel is a term used to refer to the three ships that Christopher Columbus used in his first voyage to the New World in 1492. The ships were named Pinta, Nina, and Santa Maria. Pinta was a caravel-type vessel with a length of about 20 meters and a width of 5.5 meters. Nina was a smaller caravel-type vessel with a length of about 17 meters and a width of 4.5 meters. Santa Maria was a larger carrack-type vessel with a length of about 24 meters and a width of 8.5 meters. All three ships were considered to be very advanced for their time and were instrumental in the success of Columbus' voyage.
