An explosive star, also known as a NOVA (4 letters), is a type of star that undergoes a sudden increase in brightness and then slowly fades back to its original state. It is caused by the nuclear fusion of hydrogen on the surface of a white dwarf star. The outburst is usually brief, lasting only a few weeks or months, but can be extremely bright, reaching an absolute magnitude of -10, which is about as bright as the full moon.
