Ukraine is Europe's second-largest nation, with an area of 603, 628 square kilometers. It is located in Eastern Europe and borders Russia, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova. Ukraine has a population of over 44 million people and its capital is Kyiv. It is a unitary state composed of 24 oblasts, one autonomous republic, and two cities with special status. Ukraine is a member of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the OSCE, and the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development.
