Haile Selassie was the last Emperor of Ethiopia, reigning from 1930 to 1974. He was a member of the Solomonic dynasty, which traced its origins to the 12th century. He is also known as 'Ras Tafari' and is considered by many to be the messiah of the Rastafari movement. His full title was 'His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, King of Kings of Ethiopia and Elect of God'. He was a major figure in the Pan-African movement, advocating for the independence of African nations from colonial rule. He was also a vocal opponent of fascism and racism, and was a key figure in the formation of the Organization of African Unity.
