Erich von Stroheim was a famous Austrian-American director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. He is best known for his silent films such as Greed and The Wedding March. Von Stroheim was born in Vienna, Austria in 1885 and emigrated to the United States in 1909. He began his career in Hollywood in 1915 and worked on over twenty films before his death in 1957. His work was highly influential in the development of film noir and expressionist cinema.
