English Poet Matthew PRIOR was born in London in 1664 and died in 1721. He was a poet, diplomat, and politician who wrote many poems and satires during the early 18th century. He is best known for his poem 'A Better Answer' which was written in response to Alexander Pope's 'Essay on Man'. He also wrote several other works such as 'SOLOMON', 'The City Mouse and Country Mouse', and 'The Hind and the Panther'. His work was highly influential in the development of the Augustan Age of English literature.
