The English Monk, BEDE (also known as Saint BEDE or the Venerable BEDE), was an 8th century monk and scholar who wrote extensively on the history of the Church in England. He is also credited with writing the first history of England, titled 'Ecclesiastical History of the English People'. His other works include commentaries on the Bible and a number of scientific treatises. His most famous work is 'Baeda's Ecclesiastical History of the English People', which is still widely read today.
