The English county Palatinate, formerly known as Durham, is a county located in the North East of England. It is bordered by Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Cumbria, and North Yorkshire. The county has a long history, having been established in the 11th century. It was originally part of the Kingdom of Northumbria, and later became part of the Duchy of Durham. The county is home to many historic sites, including Durham Cathedral, Durham Castle, and the Durham Heritage Coast.
