Endangered apes are primates that are facing a high risk of extinction in the near future. Two examples of endangered apes are the orangutan and the bonobo. The orangutan is an arboreal species native to Indonesia and Malaysia, while the bonobo is a species of great ape found in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Both species are threatened by habitat destruction, poaching, and illegal wildlife trade.
