John Adams DEANE was an early American diplomat who served as the first United States Minister to the Netherlands from 1782 to 1784. He was a prominent figure in the Continental Congress and was instrumental in negotiating the Treaty of Paris, which ended the Revolutionary War. DEANE was also a signatory of the Articles of Confederation. He was a successful lawyer and merchant before his diplomatic career.
