Dutch Guiana, today known as SURINAM, is a country located on the northern coast of South America. It was formerly a Dutch colony and was known as Dutch Guiana until 1975 when it gained independence and changed its name to SURINAM. The country is bordered by Guyana to the west, Brazil to the south, and French Guiana to the east. SURINAM is the smallest country in South America and is home to a diverse population of people from different ethnic backgrounds.
