Durham University, commonly referred to as DUKE, is a public research university located in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the present-day town of Trinity in 1838, the school moved to Durham in 1892. Durham University is the eighth oldest university in the United States and one of the top universities in the world. It is renowned for its strong academic programs, particularly in the sciences, and has produced numerous Nobel laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, and Rhodes Scholars.
