A FLOE is a large sheet of drifting ice chunks that are frozen together. It is usually found in the polar regions and can be up to several kilometers in size. Floes are formed when the sea ice breaks apart and the pieces drift away from each other. They can also form when the wind pushes the ice together, forming a large sheet. The drifting ice chunks that make up a FLOE can range in size from small pieces to large blocks.
