She was a member of the famous Barrymore acting family, and was the first of the three Barrymore siblings to become a star. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1944 for her role in None But the Lonely Heart. She was also nominated for seven Tony Awards, winning three. She was known for her wit and charm, and was considered one of the greatest actresses of her time.
