The Drachma was an ancient Greek currency that was used from the Archaic period until the Roman period. It was first introduced in the late 7th century BC and was the main form of currency in Greece until it was replaced by the Euro in 2002. The term Drachma is derived from the Greek word for 'HANDFUL' and was originally a unit of weight. The COIN version of the Drachma was first minted in the 5th century BC and was made of silver or gold.
