A downtrodden person is someone who is oppressed, mistreated, and made to feel inferior. They are often taken advantage of and treated as if they are insignificant. A DOORMAT is a person who allows themselves to be taken advantage of and put down, often without standing up for themselves. This type of person is often seen as weak and powerless, and is often taken advantage of by those in positions of power.
