The term DOT ON A MAP is composed of four words: ISLE, TOWN, ISLET, and CITY. An ISLE is a large island, usually in a river, lake, or sea. A TOWN is a small settlement, typically with a population of less than 10, 000 people. An ISLET is a very small island, usually no more than a few acres in size. A CITY is a large settlement, typically with a population of more than 10, 000 people. All four of these terms refer to geographical features that can be found on a map.
