The term 'Doomed Flyer' refers to the Greek mythological figure Icarus. Icarus was the son of Daedalus, a master craftsman and inventor. Icarus and his father were imprisoned in a tower by King Minos of Crete. To escape, Daedalus crafted wings for himself and his son out of feathers and wax. He warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, but Icarus ignored his father's advice and flew too close, causing the wax to melt and his wings to fall apart. Icarus fell into the sea and drowned, becoming a symbol of hubris and the consequences of ignoring wise counsel.
