A discus competition is an athletic event in which participants throw a discus, a heavy round object, as far as possible. The event has been part of the Olympic Games since the first modern Olympics in 1896. Al Oerter was an American athlete who won four consecutive gold medals in the discus competition at the 1956, 1960, 1964, and 1968 Olympic Games. Myron was an ancient Greek sculptor who created the Discobolus, a famous sculpture of a discus thrower.
