Agnes Varda, also known as 'The Grandmother of the French New Wave, ' was a French film director, photographer, and artist. She was born in 1928 and is best known for her pioneering work in the French New Wave movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Her films often explored feminist themes and were often autobiographical in nature. She was the first female director to be awarded an honorary Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015. Varda passed away in 2019 at the age of 90.
