Director Sidney Lumet was an American film and television director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for his work in crime dramas such as 12 Angry Men (1957), Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Network (1976), and The Verdict (1982). Lumet was nominated for five Academy Awards, winning one for Best Director for Network. He also received four Emmy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and a Directors Guild of America Award.
