Eric Rohmer was a French film director, screenwriter, and film critic. He was a key figure in the New Wave movement of the 1960s and 1970s. He is best known for his films My Night at Maud's (1969) and Claire's Knee (1970). Rohmer was also a prolific writer, having written over 30 books on film theory and criticism. He was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1983 for his contributions to French cinema.
