Director Michelangelo Antonioni was an Italian film director, screenwriter, editor, and short story writer. He is best known for his 'trilogy on modernity and its discontents' which consists of L'Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), and L'Eclisse (1962). He was also known for his films Blowup (1966) and The Passenger (1975). Antonioni was awarded the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for Red Desert (1964). He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for Blowup.
