Ida Lupino was a British-American actress, director, and screenwriter. She was one of the few female directors in Hollywood during the 1950s and 1960s. Lupino is best known for her work in film noir and melodrama films, such as The Hitch-Hiker (1953) and The Bigamist (1953). She was also the first woman to direct a film noir, Not Wanted (1949). Lupino was also an accomplished television director, directing episodes of The Twilight Zone, The Fugitive, and Bewitched.
