Erle Kenton was an American film director and actor who worked in the film industry from the 1920s to the 1950s. He directed over 100 films, including the 1933 classic Island of Lost Souls, and acted in over 50 films. He is best known for his horror films, such as The Ghost of Frankenstein and House of Frankenstein. Kenton also directed several musicals, including the Marx Brothers' A Night at the Opera.
