She went on to become a successful Broadway performer and later a Hollywood actress. Her most famous role was in the 1930 film 'Animal Crackers'. She was also known for her singing and recording career, which included hits such as 'I'll Follow My Secret Heart' and 'If I Could Be With You'. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972.
