Desdemona is a character in William Shakespeare's tragedy OTHELLO. She is the wife of OTHELLO, a Moorish general in the Venetian army. Desdemona is strangled to death by her husband after being falsely accused of infidelity by Iago, OTHELLO's ensign. Emilia, Desdemona's attendant, discovers her body and reveals that Iago had planted the handkerchief of OTHELLO's first wife as a PROP to convince OTHELLO of Desdemona's infidelity.
