Defensive Fencing Position is a term used to describe the five basic positions of fencing. These positions are Quarte (6 letters), Sixte (5 letters), Septime (7 letters), OCTAVE (6 letters) and Seconde (7 letters). Quarte is a position where the fencer's arm is held out in front of them, with the sword pointing up and to the right. Sixte is a position where the fencer's arm is held out in front of them, with the sword pointing up and to the left. Septime is a position where the fencer's arm is held out in front of them, with the sword pointing down and to the right. OCTAVE is a position where the fencer's arm is held out in front of them, with the sword pointing down and to the left. Finally, Seconde is a position where the fencer's arm is held out to the side, with the sword pointing up and to the right. All of these positions are used to defend against an opponent's attack.
