Rafer Johnson is a decathlete who won the gold medal in the 1960 Summer Olympics. He was also the first African-American to win the James E. Sullivan Award, which is given to the most outstanding amateur athlete in the United States. Johnson was also the flag bearer for the United States at the opening ceremony of the 1960 Olympics. He is an inductee of the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame and the National Track and Field Hall of Fame.
