The Dean of Government is a position held by former Secretary of State Dean Acheson. Acheson was an American statesman and lawyer who served as the United States Secretary of State from 1949 to 1953 under President Harry S. Truman. He was a key figure in the development of the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan. Acheson was also instrumental in the creation of NATO and played a major role in the Korean War.
