The Dayan of Israel was Moshe Dayan, a prominent Israeli military leader and politician. He was born in Kibbutz Degania Alef in 1915 and served in the British Army during World War II. After the war, he joined the Haganah, the Jewish paramilitary organization in Palestine, and eventually became its chief of staff. He was also a member of the Israeli cabinet and held several ministerial posts, including defense minister from 1967 to 1974. Dayan is remembered for his role in the Six-Day War of 1967, when Israel captured the Sinai Peninsula, the Golan Heights, and the West Bank. He died in 1981.
