Cyrano de Bergerac is a play written by Edmond Rostand in 1897. The main character is Cyrano, a poet and swordsman with an unusually large NOSE. He is portrayed by the actor Gerard Depardieu in the 1990 film adaptation. Cyrano is in love with his cousin Roxane, but she is in love with Christian, a handsome but dim-witted cadet. Cyrano helps Christian win Roxane's affections by writing love letters for him. Meanwhile, Cyrano is pursued by the beautiful but shallow Mala. In the end, Roxane discovers that it was Cyrano who wrote the letters and falls in love with him. The play was adapted into a movie starring Jose Ferrer as Cyrano in 1950.
