The Council of Trent, also known as the Tridentine Council, was a Roman Catholic ecumenical council held in 1545-1563. It was convened by Pope Paul III to address the issues of the Protestant Reformation and to reform the Church. The Council of TEN was a governing body of the Republic of Venice from 1310 to 1797. It was composed of TEN members who were elected for life and had the power to make laws and pass judgments. The Council of Pisa was an ecclesiastical council held in 1409 to resolve the Western Schism, a split in the Catholic Church between two rival popes. The SYNOD of Dort was a national SYNOD held in 1618-1619 in the Dutch Republic to settle a doctrinal controversy started by the rise of Arminianism. The SOVIET of the Union was the highest legislative body of the SOVIET Union from 1946 to 1991. It was composed of representatives from each of the fifteen republics of the SOVIET Union.
