A cosmic explosion is an event in which a star releases a large amount of energy in a short period of time. The two most common types of cosmic explosions are novae and the big bang. A NOVA is an explosion caused by the sudden increase in brightness of a star due to the fusion of hydrogen in its outer layers. The Big Bang is the theorized event that marked the beginning of the universe, in which all matter and energy was released from a single point.
