CAUSTICS are alkaline substances that can burn or corrode organic tissue, such as skin. Lyes are strong alkaline solutions, usually made from sodium hydroxide, which can be used to make soap. ACIDS are substances that have a sour taste and react with metals to produce hydrogen gas. All of these substances can cause damage to other materials if not handled properly.
