Ezra is a poet, essayist, and editor who was born in 1885 and died in 1967. He is best known for his modernist poetry and his critical essays on literature, culture, and politics. He was an American expatriate who lived in England for most of his life. He was a major figure in the early 20th century literary movement known as Imagism. He was also a co-founder of the Imagist movement and a major contributor to the development of free verse. He was a professor at Cornell University from 1916 to 1925 and was appointed professor of poetry at Oxford University from 1925 to 1937. He was awarded the Order of Merit in 1936 and was made a Companion of Honour in 1945. He is remembered for his influential works such as The Cantos, The Pisan Cantos, and Homage to Sextus Propertius.
