Coral structures are natural formations found in the ocean, consisting of colonies of coral polyps. The two most common types of coral structures are reefs and atolls. Reefs are large underwater structures composed of calcium carbonate secreted by corals. Atolls are ring-shaped coral reefs that form around a central lagoon. Both of these structures provide habitats for a variety of marine life, and are important to the health of the ocean ecosystem.
