COOPERSTOWN'S SPEAKER is Tris Speaker, an American baseball player who played for the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians from 1907 to 1928. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937 and is widely considered one of the greatest defensive players of all time. Speaker was known for his ability to hit for both power and average, as well as his strong throwing arm. He was also a master of the 'hit and run' play, which helped him lead the league in stolen bases five times. Speaker's career batting average of .345 is still the sixth-highest in major league history.
