He was born in Berlin in 1876 and studied music at the Stern Conservatory. He conducted the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from 1922 to 1925 and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra from 1933 to 1945. He also conducted the New York Philharmonic Orchestra from 1947 to 1949. He died in 1962 in Los Angeles.
