Georg Solti was a Hungarian-born British conductor and composer. He is best known for his work with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, where he served as music director from 1969 to 1991. He was also the first music director of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the first conductor of the Bayreuth Festival. Solti was awarded numerous awards throughout his career, including 31 Grammy Awards, making him the most decorated classical musician in history. He was knighted in 1971 and received the Order of Merit in 1992.
