The composer Scott Joplin was an American ragtime musician and composer who lived from 1868 to 1917. He is best known for his classic ragtime piece 'The Entertainer' which was featured in the 1973 film The Sting. He wrote over 40 original ragtime pieces, two operas, and a ballet. He was posthumously awarded a Pulitzer Prize for his opera Treemonisha in 1976.
