Jerome Kern was an American composer who wrote over 700 songs for Broadway and Hollywood musicals. He is best known for his collaborations with lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, which included the musicals Show Boat and Oklahoma!. Kern was one of the first American composers to write both music and lyrics for his songs. He won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1945 for 'The Last Time I Saw Paris'.
