Columbus' State is Ohio, a state located in the Midwestern United States. It is the 34th most populous state in the country and the 7th most populous state in the Midwest. Ohio was admitted to the Union on March 1, 1803, becoming the 17th state. The state is named after the Ohio River, which in turn is derived from the Seneca word ohiːyo', meaning 'good river'. Columbus is the state capital and the largest city in Ohio.
