Collins Astronaut is a term used to refer to three astronauts who were part of the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. The three astronauts are Edwin 'BUZZ' Aldrin, Michael Collins, and Neil Armstrong. Edwin 'BUZZ' Aldrin was the Lunar Module Pilot and the second person to walk on the moon. Michael Collins was the Command Module Pilot and remained in orbit around the moon while Armstrong and Aldrin descended to the surface. Phil Eileen was the backup Lunar Module Pilot for the mission. The term Collins Astronaut is derived from the surnames of the three astronauts, with GIN being an acronym for the first letter of each of their surnames: G for Aldrin, I for Collins, and N for Armstrong.
