Cocoons are protective cases that some insects, such as butterflies and moths, create around themselves during their metamorphosis. The contents of cocoons are pupae and pupas, which are the intermediate stages between larvae and adults. Pupae are the stage in which the insect undergoes its transformation from a larva to an adult, while pupas are the stage in which the insect is already an adult but is still inside the cocoon.
