The term CLIMBING DEVICE can be defined as any device used to ascend or descend a vertical surface. Two examples of such devices are ladders and rope ladders. A LADDER is a device consisting of two long pieces of wood, metal, or rope, hinged together at the top and bottom, and held apart by pieces of wood or metal called rungs. A rope LADDER is a LADDER made of rope and wooden rungs, which is hung from a higher point and used to climb up or down.
