A church alcove is a small area or RECESS within a church, usually located at the end of the building. It is often marked by an APSE, which is a semicircular projection from the main body of the church. Apses can be found in many different styles and sizes, and may contain an altar or other religious symbols. An ARBOR is another type of alcove, which is a covered area with a roof and walls, often made of stone or wood. Urns are often placed in alcoves as a way to honor the dead.
