Martha Graham was a renowned American choreographer who is considered to be one of the most influential figures in modern dance. She was born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania in 1894 and began her career as a dancer in the 1920s. She developed her own unique style of modern dance which she called 'Graham Technique' and which revolutionized the world of dance. Her works have been performed around the world and she has received numerous awards for her contributions to the art form. Her most famous works include Primitive Mysteries (1931), Appalachian Spring (1944), and Clytemnestra (1958). Martha Graham died in 1991 at the age of 97.
